Hook the Vote initiative registers students, others

A two-month-long student voting and political involvement drive, aptly named Hook the Vote, culminated with an election watch party Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in the University of Texas Union Ballroom.

Hook the Vote is a joint effort spearheaded by Student Government that united the University Democrats, the College Republicans at Texas, UT Votes and the Student Events Center to build enthusiasm about the presidential and local elections. Read more

Cornyn keeps Senate seat

Republican incumbent Sen. John Cornyn defeated Democratic senate candidate Rep. Rick Noriega with 55 percent of the vote. Cornyn will return to a GOP minority as the Democrats are now in control of the Senate.

UT students respond to Obama's win

Barack Obama defeated John McCain on Nov. 4 to win the 2008 presidential election and become the first African-American president-elect in the nation's history, a monumental event that resonated among University of Texas students in Austin.
